Day 94

Did it:

Cami--mostly brainstorming to figure out changes I need to make to have my story come out right in the end. I wrote it all down though, so I'm counting it.
Mary
Elena - I think I might actually be mostly happy with my first page of my first chapter. Maybe. I rewrote it yet again. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

*SOMETHING ROMANTIC*

*SOMETHING ROMANTIC* replaces what should be actual, brilliant words in my manuscript. The main character receives a message from the love of her life just after she learns that he has sacrificed himself and is now dead or dying. Hee hee, it's probably not as melodramatic as that sounds, but anyway... So um...what would that message say? I think it would be hilarious and fun to see what everybody thinks and can come up with. Enough entries and we can name a *SOMETHING ROMANTIC* One Page A Day winner and give them all sorts of virtual bragging rights.

Thanks you guys!!!

Iowa City

Justin is interviewing in Iowa City right now... so all week, instead of using the computer to write, I have been looking up information on Iowa City.

So useful.

Not really.

But it is home of the Iowa Writer's Workshop. So, if we move there you'll all have to come visit me.

I promise to repent and start over next week.

Day 88

Did it:

Jamie
Cami
Elena - Sorry I've been slacking. I went to the LTU&E symposium at BYU Thurs, Fri, and Sat, and my kids were out of school Friday and Monday, so of course I accomplished nothing. I stayed up until midnight working on Tuesday, though, so even though I was rearranging and cutting, I felt very productive. I'll do better about reporting, I promise. I did work the first half of last week, even though I didn't check in much.

Didn't:
Julie--Had a major self-identity crisis, as I do every once in a while. Not convinced this whole "writer" thing is for me. It's so painful. I can't wait to get done with my stupid rough draft because what I really like to do is the editing and rewriting. So maybe I should just be an editor.

Life of its Own

Ok, so I had to take a week or two off of writing because of crazy sick kiddos at home, but now I am back and I plan on getting my first draft done sometime this year. The problem is, the story has taken on a life of its own. I'm not a huge planner, but I did have the ending planned out. I knew where the story was going. Now that I am getting to the critical moments, the story wants to change directions. I think subconsciously I like to be entertained as I am writing, and I cannot handle a predictable story, movie etc. So now my brain is throwing in huge twists more for my benefit than the reader, since the reader didn't know how it would end but I did. So what do you all think, better to have a SOLID story or better to go with your imagination?

Didn't:

Jamie -Instead I made a pie a party. A pie that no one ate. So I ate it instead. It kept me very busy.

Day 81

Did it:

Jamie
Cami-made some good progress today.
Julie--I edited a lot, and probably with all the stuff I put it in it was about a page. Of course, I cut two pages, but still, it was progress.

Elena - I did more cutting than creating, but I'm counting my revisions, since I spent hours. I also wrote a poem.
Mary -Does editing count?

Day 79

Did it:

Julie--technically I rewrote the page I wrote last week, since it somehow didn't get saved. But I liked it better this time anyway.
Jamie
Cami
Elena - didn't even rewrite; just reworked. I'm counting it.

didn't

Mary - I've been feeling very blah this week

Day 78

Did it:

Elena - nothing new. Just revising.
Jamie

Didn't:
Julie
Cami-I had time to either eat lunch or work on writing. In the end, hunger won out.

I moved Elena to "did it" because revising counts to me. Working on writing counts to me. :)
